Pit Chamnan, permanent secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, has been awarded official honours via the 2022 Autumn Conferment of Decorations on foreign nationals by the government of Japan in light of his efforts at strengthening bilateral relations between Cambodia and Japan, especially through the field of education.

In a November 3 press statement by the embassy of Japan in Cambodia, the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan announced the recipients of the 2022 Autumn Conferment of Decorations, which are bestowed upon individuals of merit in recognition of their public service, and in honour of their distinguished accomplishments.

Chamnan was awarded the “Order of the Rising Sun – Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” in recognition of his promotion of academic exchanges and mutual understanding between Japan and Cambodia in the field of education, especially for his support for Japanese language education, the statement said.

The embassy said that Chamnan, a former rector at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, contributed to the education of their diplomats who are Khmer language specialists by facilitating a homestay program and other assistance to deepen their understanding of the Khmer language and Cambodian society and culture.

A ceremony to honour Chamnan and officially present him with the award will be organised at a later date.
