Phnom Penh municipal police on May 22 sent 11 Chinese nationals to court for involvement in drug crime while 34 of their fellow nightclub patrons were issued fines, following a raid on the club in the capital’s Boeung Keng Kang district on May 18.
Municipal police spokesman San Sokseyha told The Post on May 22 that one of the 11 Chinese was the nightclub owner while the other 10 were employees.
“We already sent them all to the municipal court. Five of them tested positive for illegal substance while six others were accomplices in drug trafficking and consumption,” he said.
Municipal court spokesman Phlong Sophal said he had not received an update of the cases.
Sokseyha said the 34 patrons were fined five million riel ($1,250) each for violating administrative measures that the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration had imposed to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The 34 patrons include 15 Chinese, seven Vietnamese, one Korean, one Malaysian and 10 Cambodians. They were released after being fined and reprimanded.
