Banteay Meanchey provincial authorities said flood levels in the province have dropped gradually after rain eased in the last few days and floodwaters from Thailand decreased, while displaced people have returned home.

Provincial governor Um Reatrey said on October 3 that during the last four days, the weather was good with only light rains and the water levels in the districts bordering Thailand have largely receded. Only Monkol Borei district and Sisophon town have seen flood levels drop marginally.

“For now, there are no more people who are seeking safer ground. In Poipet town, 100 families who had been evacuated to higher ground have now returned to their homes,” Reatrey said.
