The Child Rights Coalition Cambodia (CRC Cambodia) has launched an easily understandable child rights booklet available for free until August 31.
Crafted to engage Khmer-speaking children, parents and the wider public, the initiative strives to shed light on the often complex topic of child rights.
Announced by CRC Cambodia, the project is made possible through generous contributions from various donors. This year, over a thousand copies of the 2022 child rights manual have been printed, ready for distribution.
“The CRC Cambodia office invites interested members, civil society organisations, and other relevant institutions to collect their free copy of the book,” said CRC Cambodia.
Neang Visal, CRC Cambodia’s programme director, stated the manual is a recommended resource by the UN and intended for state parties, including Cambodia.
“This book outlines the fundamental rights of children, a commitment Cambodia reaffirmed in 2022, pledging to uphold international treaties on child rights,” he said.
Visal stressed the importance of the booklet.
“The UN recommendations are in English, which can pose a comprehension challenge, so we published this book because it’s comprehensible and suitable for children,” he said.
He added that the booklet’s recommendations are vital as they guide state institutions, relevant organisations, and the public on how to respect and uphold child rights principles.
Visal revealed that the book includes illustrations to make it more appealing for children.
“We distribute the booklets to our members, as our organisation provides all published documents and books for free.
“However, this initiative is not exclusive to members. We’re also planning to distribute the booklets to children’s groups across the nation who express interest,” he said.
