The French embassy in Phnom Penh has announced the opening of the “France Excellence” Scholarship campaign for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Previously known as “BGF” (Bourses du Gouvernement Français), the embassy explained that the prestigious program is open to all Cambodian students and researchers who wish to pursue their studies in France, in Master's and Doctorate programmes, in French or English.
“Around sixty scholarships will be awarded as part of this campaign, for new laureates and scholarship renewals. For the 2024-2025 academic year, 56 Cambodian students have benefited. Candidates can apply in any field of study, with a particular focus on law, human and social sciences, health, agroecology and the environment, engineering and the arts,” explained a January 6 joint statement by the embassy and Campus France Cambodia.
“As part of its partnership approach, the embassy has also developed co-financed scholarships with Cambodian institutions: scholarships co-financed with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport or with the Cambodian Academy of Digital Technology (CADT) are offered to train Cambodian students and researchers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as computer science and telecommunications,” it added.
At present, more than 170 Cambodians are studying in France, thanks to various scholarship and funding schemes: France Excellence Scholarships, France Excellence Eiffel Scholarhips, Erasmus+ program or the Specialised/in-depth Medical Training Diploma (Diplôme de Formation MédicaleSpécialisée/Approfondie, DFMS/DFMSA).
Since 2014, more than 1,200 Cambodian students have benefited from French scholarships, noted the statement.
The release encouraged Cambodian students to seize this opportunity to enrich their academic and professional careers.
“Studying in France, at one of the world's leading universities or academic institutions, is the assurance of benefiting from one of the best and most accessible higher education systems in the world,” it said, adding that “In 2023-2024, over 430,000 foreign students, including more than 800 Cambodians, were enrolled in French higher education, making France one of the world's leading host countries for foreign students.”
Application forms are available on the embassy and Campus France websites, with a January 26 deadline.
