National Assembly president Heng Samrin urged the member parliaments of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) and all countries to respect international laws and the UN Charter in order to promote human rights and democracy.

Samrin made the request while attending the 30th APPF forum held in Thailand from October 26-29, according to a press statement from the national assembly.

He said that the current issue of concern is the violation of international law, especially the UN charter, which threatens global peace and security.

He also informed the forum that Cambodia will host the 43th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) from November 20-25 under the theme: common steps toward sustainable, inclusive, and resilient ASEAN development. The assembly aims continue dialogue on the promotion of cooperation to solve regional and global issues.

Samrin also met with his Thai counterpart Chuan Leekpai and Laotian counterpart Xaysomphone Phomvihane, and AIPA Secretary General Nguyen Tuong Van, for cooperation talks.
