Prime Minister Hun Sen reiterated that Khmer New Year, which falls in mid-April, will be fully celebrated this year, noting that he also looked forward to spending some time relaxing with his family.
Hun Sen made the remarks on March 25, during the ceremonial inauguration of National Road 51 which connects National Road 5 in Kampong Speu province's Odong district to National Road 4 in Kandal province's Ang Snuol district, thanks to development loans from China.
“Please enjoy the Khmer New Year. Authorities should already be preparing how they intend to provide safety and security for the public during these special days,” he said.
The premier said the herd immunity provided by the Kingdom’s successful Covid-19 vaccine rollout had made this year’s celebrations possible. However, he urged people to maintain the use of preventative measures such as mask wearing, keeping personal distance and regularly washing their hands.
“This year, I will not travel far. I will relax in Sihanoukville for three days. My children and grandchildren may accompany me – if they want to,” he said.
