The International Coordinating Committee for Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk (ICC-Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk) recently held its 37th technical session, focusing on discussing and monitoring the implementation of previously approved recommendations.

The session was co-chaired by Minister of Culture and Fine Arts Phoeurng Sackona, who is also the president of the board of the APSARA National Authority (ANA), representatives from the French and Japanese embassies in Cambodia, as well as the UNESCO representative to Cambodia.

ANA said that the ICC-Angkor’s technical session reviewed the recommendations adopted in the 36th technical session and the 29th plenary meeting held in December 2022. It examined the report on repair and conservation activities conducted by the technical team.

The ANA stated that the meeting participants closely monitored the restoration of various temples, such as Tro Moung, an intriguing sandstone ‘hospital chapel’ known for its unique patterns and motifs.

They also discussed the restoration of the intricately sculpted Churning of the Ocean of Milk ceilings, the south western tower, the eastern gate, a library in the south, and entrances and handrails at the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat.

Furthermore, the ICC-Angkor and Sambor Prei Kuk inspected the irrigation equipment and water filling of Baray Lolei and the East Baray, as well as the restoration of Banteay Thom Temple, the Takeo Gate of Angkor Thom, Banteay Samre Temple, the former Royal Palace of Angkor Thom, and Banteay Srei Temple.

Additionally, they focused on the recommendation to remove illegal structures within the Angkor Archaeological Park.

ANA spokesperson Long Kosal was not available for comment on June 12.
