The Ministry of Information’s mobile app now has a menu which links to online archives of “Kambuja” magazine, a title which dates back to the Sangkum Reastr Niyum era between 1953-1970 under then-Prince Norodom Sihanouk.

“The ministry has created a 100-page magazine which will be published monthly. The magazines will compile all of the informative articles which the ministry issues on behalf of the government,” it announced on August 29.

“It also mentions the activities of the leaders of the government and the private sector’s participation in national development. The magazine will serve as a reference document for readers and will be a valuable research tool for young people,” it added.

To access the magazine, readers need to download the ministry’s app from the IOS and Android stores.

The ministry developed the app to expand the broadcast capabilities of the National Television of Cambodia (TVK), the Agence Kampuchea Press (AKP) and the National Radio (FM 96 MHz), as well as to meet growing demand from smartphone users.

“The app plays an important role in transmitting up-to-date information on major national and international political events, and includes videos, audio and live broadcasts of events involving Prime Minister Hun Sen,” said the ministry.

The ministry said the app is a national media channel that should be the official source of news for foreigners. Users can watch live TV and listen to about 100 radio channels.

It said the launch of the digital media network demonstrates the ministry’s readiness to play an important role in the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, era.

Ministry spokesman Phos Sovann told the Post on August 30 that the app will make it convenient for people to search for items related to specific topics, making it a handy research tool.

“The app is a place where we can republish and share all kinds of useful media, including print, video and audio.

“I think Kambuja will be very popular. It is one of the oldest magazines … and has garnered a lot of support with many institutions, embassies in particular, asking for this type of magazine to be published,” he added.
