The Ministry of Justice and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are teaming up to ensure that the soon-to-be-established Commercial Court inspires confidence among would-be litigants, and enhance the capacities of law enforcement officials.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed to this effect on February 17 by Minister of Justice Koeut Rith and ADB country representative Jyotsana Varma.

The MoU includes ADB’s support and involvement in the preparation of an underlying legal framework to ensure the establishment and operation of an effective and trust-worthy court that ensures quality, clarity, transparency and time-efficiency, as well as the education and training of judges on commercial law, the ministry said in a statement.

Koeut Rith expressed his gratitude in advance to the Metro Manila-based multilateral lender for its technical support for achieving the MoU’s objectives.
