Kampong Speu provincial authorities have begun taking down billboards advertising alcoholic beverages amid a liquor sales ban in the province.
Provincial governor Vei Samnang told The Post on May 21: “Drinking alcohol triggers a change in the demeanour of human beings and fuels domestic violence. It also encourages people to come together to liquor up, and that affects Covid-19 prevention efforts.”
The governor ordered alcohol billboards to be scrapped and replaced with those that “promote health”, without confirming a timeframe for the ban on the adverts.
On May 18, the provincial administration extended restrictions on social gatherings and alcohol consumption in Kampong Speu.
