Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital said that since 2008 the Endoscopy team at Jayavarman VII Hospital in Siem Reap province has performed 1836 endoscopies.

In the first nine months of this year, a total of 175 of the procedures were performed, including 23 cases of polypectomy, 10 percutaneous endoscopies, 10 cases of variceal band ligation due to Liver Cirrhosis, 11 cases of sophageal balloon dilatation due to accidental lye ingestion and 121 cases of gastro-colonoscopy.

Separately, the hospital reported the successful treatment of a 6-day-old boy who had suffered from severe neonatal tetanus three months ago.

The boy, from Battambang province, had been saved by the use of a mechanical respiratory ventilator along with anticonvulsant drugs over the course of 50 days and then with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) for 14 days at Jayavarman VII Hospital in Siem Reap province.

“He has been discharged and sent home as of July 5. Today, he is 3 months and 2 weeks old and weighs 4.6kg and is healthy,” the hospital said in a social media post on September 30.
