On the 11th anniversary of the passing of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, a poignant ceremony is being organised in his honour.

Kong Sam Ol, chairman of the National Committee for Organising National and International Festivals, announced that the event would take place on October 15.

He said the government, along with the Royal Palace, civil servants and citizens across the country will commemorate the King Father’s immense contributions.

The King Father is remembered for his relentless mental and physical efforts in preserving the territorial integrity of Cambodia. He strived tirelessly to reconcile, unify and drive the development of the nation in diverse sectors.

The committee has recommended the Ministry of the Royal Palace to conduct the ceremony as per traditional norms and respecting the wishes of the reigning King and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.

“We will hold ceremonies across all ministries, state institutions, and within the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration. At 7am on October 15, tributes will be paid and wreaths laid at the memorial, east of the Independence Monument,” shared Sam Ol.

He further called on citizens to display the King Father’s portrait and raise flags symbolising the nation, state religion and King, as well as banners at every establishment including state institutions, businesses, factories and manufacturing enterprises, and schools.

He also encouraged each household to proudly hoist the national flag.

The Ministry of Cults and Religion has been advised to direct its departments across the country to hold commemorations at all pagodas, meditation centres monasteries, and temples.

Likewise, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is to guide Cambodian embassies and consulates worldwide in holding similar ceremonies.

The King Father passed away on October 15, 2012, at the age of 90.
