A Laotian man was detained on Monday in Stung Treng province after police found 7kg of methamphetamine on him as he sailed into Cambodia on a boat.
Anti-Drug Department deputy director Yin Panharith, who led the operation, identified the suspect as Phit Ngin, 33, from Khong district, Champasak province, Laos.
He was found in Borei O’Svay Sen Chey district’s Anlong Svay village.
Panharith said: “The suspect illegally came to Cambodia by boat pretending to be a fisherman. Authorities checked and found 7kg of methamphetamine on him. It is highly likely that he is a drug criminal in Laos.”
Ngin and the drugs were sent to the provincial Anti-drug Department, Panharith said.
Anti-drug office chief Chem Phanith told The Post that experts sent the case to the Stung Treng Provincial Court to continue legal proceedings after Ngin was questioned on Tuesday.
Court spokesman Kim Hongsan told The Post that provincial deputy prosecutor Sin Raksa charged Ngin for drug trafficking under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control.
