The Kampong Speu Provincial Court has placed a man in pre-trial detention for "obstruction of the implementation of Covid-19 health measures and incitement" via video-sharing app TikTok.

Pann Sophy, 29-year-old resident of Por Chamroeun commune in Baset district, was charged under Article 11 of the newly promulgated Covid-19 law and articles 494 and 496 of the Criminal Code.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has said he will not tolerate anyone who incites distrust in the government's Covid-19 vaccination campaign.

The prime minister said he would rather be regarded as a dictator for taking action against individuals for incitement than risk Cambodian lives by leaving them unprotected.
