Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his excitement upon visiting Cambodia's largest international airport, currently under construction, a project that stands as another source of pride for the Kingdom.
During his visit to the Techo International Airport (TIA) in Takhmao town this morning, the premier shared that his elation was not due to never having seen such a large airport before, but because it is located in Cambodia.
"I have been feeling excited since the moment the car passed through the entrance," he exclaimed.
"But I must share this feeling, similar to the goosebumps I felt during the launch of the Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport (SAI).
"I have travelled to many countries and seen large airports in some of them. However, the pride and joy I feel stem from the fact that this airport is in Cambodia and belongs to us. This is truly exhilarating," he added.
Manet noted that, once operational next year, it will become the largest airport in Cambodia.
Minister in Charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) Mao Havanall stated at the event that the airport is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2025.
He said that construction is over 66 per cent complete, with around $961 million spent out of the total $1.5 billion investment capital.
The airport is slated to be classified as Class 4F, indicating it can accommodate large aircraft with extensive requirements such as runways over 3,000 metres in length, suitable for the biggest passenger and cargo planes, and advanced navigational and safety facilities.
