Overseeing the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the military police, Tea Banh, Minister of National Defence, acknowledged their significant contributions to the safety and political stability of the nation.

The ceremony was held at Phnom Chum Reak Reay Military Police Training Centre in Kampong Chhnang province on July 14, marking three decades since the military police's inception on this day in 1993.

Sao Sokha, deputy commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and commander of the National Military Police, joined the celebration, alongside senior officials from the Ministry of National Defence and regional military police commanders, the Ministry of National Defence stated in a social media post.

Tea Banh hailed the military police for its numerous accomplishments and works over the past 30 years, emphasising their key role in defending the nation and fostering peace through their prolific efforts.

"Our military police have become a model unit within the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces," he asserted.

He continued, "Their work spans across areas such as reform, capacity building, education, logistics, technical assistance, and construction of shelters. Their efficient execution of duties to prevent and crack down on crime, and to perform rescue operations and participate in law enforcement is commendable”.

A social media post from the Ministry of National Defence announced that in response to calls for strengthened security and order, and the enforcement of laws to bolster democracy and the rule of law, a government sub-decree was issued on June 15, 1994.

This decree outlined the general duties and structure of the military police and significantly expanded their roles and responsibilities across 16 articles.
