The Cambodian government pledges to uphold the rights of both citizens and foreigners, with the labour ministry actively prioritising inclusivity and dignity as fundamental principles for a harmonious and thriving society.
Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Heng Sour made the remarks during his meeting with Indonesian ambassador Santo Darmosumarto at the ministry on January 4.
Sour stated that for 2024, Cambodia and Indonesia are committed to enhancing cooperation in vocational training by agreeing to bolster collaboration through the provision of scholarships and the potential exchange of technical trainees between the two countries.
According to the ministry, Darmosumarto expressed gratitude to the Cambodian government for its care of Indonesian citizens working and residing in Cambodia without discrimination.
“The labour ministry, as a friend in the ASEAN region, is obligated to respect the rights of the general populace and foreigners. Cambodia will do its utmost in [the current] mandate, whether it concerns foreigners within Cambodian territory or Cambodians working abroad,” the minister stated.
During the meeting, both sides also discussed and exchanged views on behalf of countries sending citizens to work globally.
Sour and Darmosumarto mentioned the potential provision of scholarships to Cambodians on technical skills, highlighting Indonesia’s capability and the possibility of exchanging professional technical trainees between the two countries.
According to the ministry, the endeavour will be an important factor in strengthening the relationship between the peoples and nations of both nations.
On December 30, the ministry issued instructions to foreign owners and directors of enterprises to start applying for work permits from December 28 onwards to avoid fines.
