With the Khmer New Year holidays just around the corner, the labour ministry on April 7 instructed owners of all factories and manufacturing enterprises within its purview to allow all workers to take paid leave on April 14-16.

In a notice, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training explained that workers are entitled to paid leave for the three-day period, as stipulated in the labour law, as well as a prakas – dated September 7, 2022 – on paid holidays for 2023.

Workers on the job during the New Year’s holiday are entitled to double pay, the ministry stated, suggesting that worker scheduling be prepared in advance so as to not disrupt operations or potentially cause wider-reaching consequences.
