The Ministry of Environment has introduced many programmes that promote environmentally friendly activities to ensure that Cambodia maintains a clean and green environment that evolves with the times, according to minister Say Samal.
Samal made the remarks as he handed over certificates of commendation to 230 outstanding businesses and individuals during an event held to promote public participation under the theme “Together, build environmental friendliness” on November 24.
The minister said the work can be achieved with the participation of all. People are beginning to understand the potential and beauty of Cambodia with its rich tourist areas, especially the natural landscapes.
“[We] create a way of thinking about loving the land and nature in the country, which is the foundation for promoting successful protection of the environment and conservation of natural resources,” he said.
He thanked businesses and individuals for joining the implementation of the environmentally friendly programmes.
Samal also suggested that all businesses continue the activities to jointly promote environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of natural resources and sustainable living in Cambodia.
Chuop Paris, head of the ministry’s General Department of Environmental Knowledge and Information, expressed his gratitude to all supporters, sponsors and people practicing environmentally friendly behaviour in the cause of promoting and protecting the environment and natural resources.
Paris said the award programme is designed to promote the participation of businesses and people from the public and private sectors in environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and sustainable living.
Im Tieng, the chief monk of Sirisakor Daun Steng Pagoda in Prey Veng province and one of the certificate recipients, said Cambodia needs those who care about environmental conservation to join the programme.
“The presentation of this certificate encourages me as well as other Buddhists who love and preserve our environment. This is the first time we have received a national-level award certificate. Previously, we only received certificates from provincial-level authorities,” he said.
Tieng added that he would continue to do this work for people around the pagoda through sermons and donations.
Another recipient of the certificate was photographer for The Post Yousos Apdoulrashim. He said that the programme encouraged photographers like him to try to take pictures that really stand out in terms of beauty in order to promote eco-tourism and improve Cambodia’s image.
“This is the first time I have joined as a photographer, and I am very honoured to receive a letter of commendation from the environment ministry and I hope they hold this event every year,” he said.
