The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the Ministry of Environment and nine higher education institutions (HEIs).
The latest additions to the ministry’s verify.gov.kh will take advantage of the new QR code based system, which allows for documents to be authenticated efficiently, saving time and eliminating the use of fraudulent documents.
The May 31 signing ceremony was witnessed by telecoms minister Chea Vandeth, environment minister Say Samal and education minister Hang Chuon Naron, along with representatives of the nine HEIs.
A telecoms ministry press release noted that the agreements were significant steps in the Kingdom’s journey towards digitalisation.
“The MoUs covered four main areas. The adaption of the verification website so documents can be easily accredited; the establishment of a digital management system; the provision of stable and secure internet connections; and training in the use of the new technology,” it added.
Vandeth explained that the signings were the fourth round that had taken place.
“The National University of Management was an early adapter, signing in April. In May, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries became the first ministry to join the system. Later that month, an additional nine HEIs also signed MoUs with us,” he said.
The verify.gov.kh website – and its supporting system – was developed by the telecoms ministry to eliminate the use of falsified documents and improve the ease of verification. It is expected to improve public trust in official documents and save time and money, as well as promoting the digital transformation, in line with international practices.
