The Ministry of Health stressed the indispensable role women play in advancing family health, from championing healthcare and vaccinations to advocating for breastfeeding and children’s nutrition.

Ministry secretary of state Or Vandine made the remarks during an October 4 virtual consultative meeting with the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC), aimed at enhancing primary healthcare initiatives in Cambodia. CRC secretary-general Pum Chantinie and first deputy secretary-general Men Neary Sopheak were among the officials participating.

According to a CRC press statement, Vandine underscored her ministry’s dedication to augment primary healthcare in the nation. This includes transforming citizens’ daily routines to embrace cleaner living and healthier eating habits, guided by the principle “Prevention is Better than Cure”.

She noted the CRC’s grassroots involvement, lauding its direct community engagement and stated that the organisation stands as an exemplary model, given its extensive outreach with sub-branches across the country and its vast network of community volunteers.

Chantinie remarked on the CRC’s ongoing community health projects, aligning with their 2021-2030 strategy’s second priority: “Health and Community Health Care”. She pinpointed their specific emphasis on maternal, infant and child health, as well as combating HIV/AIDS.

She noted that their initiatives resonate with CRC president Bun Rany’s recognised efforts as a national emblem for women and children’s health under the UN’s Joint Action Plan and her leadership in the Asia-Pacific Forum on HIV/AIDS and Development in Cambodia.

“The partnership will be stronger and more prosperous. The CRC is committed to its statutory duty, assisting governmental bodies in the humanitarian sector, for the betterment of our society, the Kingdom’s future and the well-being of our younger generation.
