The National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia issued an announcement that the first session of the 7th legislative mandate of the National Assembly will be convened on the morning of August 21. The first session of the NA will be presided over by King Norodom Sihamoni.

“Senior dignitaries, foreign diplomats in Cambodia and representatives of several non-governmental organisations have been given the honour of being invited to this solemn and historic occasion,” said the August 11 public announcement by NA spokesman Leng Peng Long.

“After the opening of the session, the first and second National Assembly’s sessions will commence, presided over by Nation Assembly president Heng Sarin to approve the mandate of each NA member, and to approve the internal rules of the National Assembly for the 7th mandate,” the letter added.

On August 22, the NA will continue the session to elect a president, vice presidents, and the heads of each of the NA’s expert commissions, as well as approve the formation of the new government.

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced on August 9 that Khuon Sudary was slated to be appointed as NA president, the first women to hold the position in the Kingdom’s history.

Hun Manet will be officially approved as Prime Minister of Cambodia.
