A day before his departure for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum in China, Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over a ceremony commemorating the 11th anniversary of the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk's passing.
While officials and members of the public observed the day across the country on October 15, Manet led Cabinet members in paying their respects to the late King Father at his memorial east of the Independence Monument in the capital.
Former Prime Minister Hun Sen also shared via social media that the day marked the 11th memorial anniversary.
"I convey my heartfelt gratitude to the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk for his many sacrifices and unwavering commitment to Cambodia. I offer my dedication to the King Father for eternal peace," he wrote.
The memorial event was also observed at the Royal Residence in Siem Reap. Present at the event were provincial governor Prak Sophoan, chairman of the provincial council Ean Khun, local officials and youth.
The provincial administration shared that the ceremony served as a remembrance for the late King Father, whose sacrifices and unwavering dedication contributed to the nation's successes and achievements.
"As the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the Kingdom, we mourn the loss of King Father Norodom Sihanouk, who left behind numerous achievements for the benefit of all Cambodia," expressed the administration.
Yang Peou, secretary-general of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said on October 16 that the memorial anniversary reflects the profound gratitude of Cambodian people.
"The celebration reflected the cultural values of politicians and leaders. It was also an expression of the principles and virtues of the late King Father for the nation," he added.
"This serves as a meaningful way to honour the nation's heroes for their contributions and achievements, and it is a valuable tradition for people to genuinely appreciate one another, rather than merely imitating foreign standards," he said.
