The National Assembly on Monday held the second session of its sixth mandate to discuss and approve several agendas.

Headed by assembly president Heng Samrin, the session was also attended by a number of foreign ambassadors to Cambodia.

Assembly spokesman Leng Peng Long told The Post on Monday that the four agendas included a royal message addressing the assembly from King Norodom Sihamoni, a review of MPs’ activities carried out between the two sessions and the appointment of former Appeal Court president Ly Vuoch Leng as a Constitutional Council member for the 2019-28 mandate.

Other agendas include the appointment of former Tbong Khmum provincial governor Prach Chan as a member of the Assembly’s Human Rights Commission on receiving complaints, investigation and National Assembly-Senate relations.

And finally, the appointment of former Battambang Governor Chan Sophal as a member of the Assembly’s Commission on Interior, National Defence and Public Functions.

“His Majesty the King merely expressed his admiration for the National Assembly’s and the government’s great efforts in visiting their constituents,” Peng Long said of the royal message.

In his message, King Sihamoni commended MPs for reaching out to people throughout the country and bringing their concerns to the government’s attention. That, the King said, enabled the executive body to address the people’s concerns in a timely manner.

“I am hopeful that the National Assembly will continue its efforts to address all challenges to ensure harmony, peace, political stability and development,” read the message.

The King also lauded Prime Minister Hun Sen’s “outstanding” leadership and his efforts in maintaining hard-earned peace, political stability and sustainable development in the Kingdom.
