The National Election Committee (NEC) announced that the process of registration for parties and candidates for July’s national election will be open for 15 days, from April 24 to May 8.

NEC vice-chairman Nuth Sokhom said in an April 21 meeting with several stakeholders that the leaders of all political parties – or their authorized representatives – must submit signed application forms for. Their party and candidates during the window given, in order for the NEC to review and approve or decline the applications.

“The NEC will review the application forms and make a decision within seven days of their submission,” he added.

“Should there is any objection to the NEC’s decision, formal complaints can be filed to the Constitutional Council within five days of the decision,” he continued.

According to Sokhum, the final lisst of participating parties and candidates will be posted at each election station at least 30 days ahead of the election date.

Cambodian People’s Party spokesman Sok Eysan said his party has prepared the necessary applications and is awaiting the opening of the application period.
