As Cambodia readies itself for the upcoming general election, the National Election Committee (NEC) has issued an appeal on July 7, calling for easier voting access for workers.

Addressing all proprietors of businesses, factories, hotels, restaurants, and other establishments, the NEC asked them to facilitate their workers' and employees' journey to the polling stations. The parliamentary election for the seventh legislature is slated for July 23.

NEC emphasised that all those listed in the 2022 voter rolls have the legal right to cast their votes, in line with the Law on National Elections.

"To ensure our populace can exercise their legitimate rights, we ask all proprietors of businesses, factories, hotels, restaurants, and other establishments across the Kingdom to ease the way for their employees to vote in the election," said the NEC.

They added that the workers should vote in the communes where they have registered. The NEC expressed a strong desire that their appeal be heeded.

In the meantime, Interior Minister Sar Kheng led an election campaign in Prey Veng province on July 6. He urged the people to participate in the upcoming vote.

"The election supports and exercises the democracy that has laid a solid foundation in Cambodia since 1993 as stipulated in the Constitution," he declared.

Eighteen political parties are prepared to contend in this vital election.
