The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) on September 16 provided a funeral grant of 10 million riel ($2,500) to the bereaved family of an unnamed civil servant who died in a tragic work accident.

The NSSF noted in a statement later that day that this was the first such payout since the fund in January rolled out a system that deals with occupational hazards among civil servants.

NSSF director-general Ouk Samvithyea said the move reflects the utmost care that the government consistently provides for the wellbeing and livelihoods of workers and civil servants.
