The General Secretariat of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking (NCCT), with the support and cooperation of the EU through the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), on February 15-16 conducted a training programme on child protection and the identification of victims of human trafficking and abuse, the NCCT said on February 17.

The training aimed to develop the capabilities of local law enforcement in northwestern Cambodia to identify victims, especially women and children, and refer vulnerable children to appropriate services.

It also sought to ensure the protection and wellbeing of children affected by migration.

The programme was attended by more than 40 officials from Thma Koul and Ratanak Mondol districts of Battambang province; and Sisophon town and Poipet, Malai, Svay Chek and Thma Puok districts of neighbouring Banteay Meanchey province.

The opening and closing courses were respectively presided over by NCCT secretary-general Pon Samkhan and NCCT permanent vice-chair Chou Bun Eng.
