Pailin provincial governor Ban Sreymom and local leaders on May 31 made preparations for a crematorium for people killed by Covid-19 and inspected quarantine facilities in Thnal Kaeng village in Sala Krao district’s O’Andong commune. This came as the provincial administration decided to cordon off three villages in the district from June 4.

“The provincial administration decided to choose a location in this village for a crematorium for people killed by Covid-19 because it is a safe,” she said.

Provincial authorities have also set up quarantine facilities for people who have come in direct or indirect contact with infected individuals, people from outbreak areas and especially migrant workers from abroad.

Sreymom on June 2 was also ready to cordon off three villages to prevent the spread of the virus. The villages include Phsar Prum, Phsar Prum Cheurng and O’s Chheur Krom in the district’s Stung Kach commune.

The response team of the provincial hospital department after testing villagers notice a daily increase in the number of Covid infections in the three villages, the governor said.

“In order to prevent increasing infections of Covid-19 in these villages, the provincial administration will take measures to temporarily cordon the places off from June 4 until further notice,” she added.

During this time, residents of the villages were banned from leaving their houses or moving from one village to another, except when necessary. A gathering of more than 10 people was also banned.

In a report, the provincial administration stated on the night of June 1 that 42 people had tested positive for Covid-19 and were being treated at hospital.

The provincial leader also requested people who are suspected of having Covid or who have been in direct or indirect contact with an infected person to consult a doctor and adhere to health guidelines including the “three protections and three don’ts”.
