The Ministry of Public Works and Transport is conducting consultations on the public’s preferred pricing structure for personalised license plates for motorcycles and scooters.

The suggested prices span from as little as 100,000 riel ($25) to 12 million ($3,000).

Since February 12, the public has been invited to have their say on the ministry’s official website, ahead of the launch of the plates, later this year.

“When personalised license plates for motorbikes are introduced, what price range would you prefer?” asks the website.

The Ministry offered two options: between 200,000 riel and 8 million, or from 100,000 riel to 12 million. The public is invited to select their preference and leave comments.

Ministry spokesperson Phorn Rim told The Post that the introduction of the custom plates aims to provide better and more diverse options for citizens.

“Regarding the final pricing, we will take into account the feedback from the public and then the final decision will be made by an Inter-Ministerial Committee,” he said.

He shared that in 2024, the ministry registered 373,069 vehicles, including 317,712 motorcycles and 55,357 cars and light vehicles. This represented a slight increase over 2023, when 370,577 vehicles were registered.

Additionally, 30,371 special or personalised license plates were registered, generating a total income of approximately $18.51 million, a minor step up from the $18.39 million earned the previous year.

The ministry also registered 3,122 electric vehicles (EVs), a massive 312% increase compared to 2023, when only 757 EVs were registered.
