Queen Mother gifts solar to CRC

Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk has gifted 73 boxes of solar-powered lamps and solar panels to the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) for use in their humanitarian activities.

Kuy Sophal, Senior Minister and Supreme Adviser to the King, handed the donation over to CRC secretary-general Pum Chantiny on November 22.

Chantiny extended thanks to the Queen Mother through a letter from CRC president Bun Rany, who was still recuperating from an unspecified medical problem and was unable to make it to official events.

In the letter, Bun Rany said CRC would use the gifts to pursue its missions and objectives in carrying out humanitarian activities.

According to a CRC report, in 2021 and the first five months of this year, it had joined the government in curbing Covid-19 and also saved victims of natural disasters and built houses for veterans.

It had also provided donations to the homeless and elderly, orphans, people with disabilities, widows, and indigenous people in remote areas.

During this period, there were 140,000 households benefiting from the CRC’s largesse. CRC had also promoted traffic safety and educated people about the dangers of landmines and explosive remnants of war.
