Apsara National Authority (ANA), Buddhist monks and a private company are joining hands to repair an old Buddhist temple in Preah Enkosei pagoda in Traing village of Siem Reap town’s Slakram commune.

A ceremony was held on January 7 to mark the beginning of restorations, attended by ANA director-general Hang Peou, Heng Development Co Ltd director-general Sieng Chan Heng, Buddhist monks and devotees.

The ANA noted in a statement that the temple has sustained severe damage from natural processes and human actions during wartime: its foundation has shifted, and its cracked roof and walls pose significant risk to people.

“In this regard, to contribute to the government’s efforts to preserve ancient structures for future generations, [Chan Heng] and other philanthropists have supported the restoration of this olden temple, with technical support from Apsara National Authority,” it said.

It is unknown in what specific period the monument was built, although it sits opposite a temple confirmed to have been built in the 10th century.
