King Norodom Sihamoni has issued a royal decree clarifying the function of the Council of Jurists, a body tasked with legal review within the Council of Ministers.
Dated June 24, the decree dictates that the council ensures each bill does not contradict other laws on the books and the language is understandable and written in a legally sound manner.
"The Council of Jurists shall convene at least two regular meetings a year. It has the right to invite representatives of relevant institutions and professionals to join consultative meetings and clarify any issues related to the framework of the institutions.
“It can require relevant institutions to provide data and information in connection with the establishment of the law and legal standard letters. The council shall send representatives to join the plenary sessions of the Council of Ministers and use the seal of the Council of Ministers for day-to-day work,” the degree stated.
