Minister of Labour and Vocational Training Ith Samheng requested that a technical working group prepare the “National Social Protection Policy Framework 2030” to ensure the Kingdom’s social security systems are compatible with the needs of the people, through the life cycle from birth to death.
He issued the request during an April 21 meeting with the working group.
Samheng also offered his appreciation to the National Social Protection Council (NSPC) for its efforts to build a strong and harmonious social protection system,
“The NSPC has contributed to improving the livelihoods of the people. It has allowed them to remain resilient under any circumstances,” he said.
He added that through the NSPC, which works closely with 12 institutions, the government has steadily improved the Kingdom’s social protection systems.
“The social protection system is very important for the people and the country as a whole, so I suggest that the working group prepare the new framework as carefully as possible,” he concluded.
Chan Narith, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of Economy and Finance and secretary-general of the NSPC, said that the development of the social protection system was an important contributor to achieving equitable and inclusive economic growth.
“To strengthen and improve the Cambodian social protection system, it is necessary for us to update the existing National Social Protection Policy Framework, in coordination with the NSPC and in consultation with the relevant ministries and institutions,” he added.
