French university AgroParisTech is running a sanitation and wastewater workshop for officials from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to increase cooperation and develop human resources in the public works sector.
The course was announced following a June 12 meeting between Jean Antoine Faby, director of ParisAgroTech’s Water for All project, and public works ministry undersecretary of state Samrong Dynamo. The course will run from June 13-16 at the Techo Sen Institute of Public Works and Transport.
Plan International Cambodia Programme Manager Hang Hybunna supported the training course, suggesting that it would drive the development of clean drinking water and sanitation, improving public health and welfare.
“Despite most urban areas being developed, some of them still face challenges related to sanitation and wastewater management. Some vulnerable areas lack access to clean drinking water and some communities lack education on best sanitary practices,” he added.
The public works ministry said the course would offer specific lessons in several key areas, such as collective and non-collective sanitation management skills, ecological services, and financial stability and value models.
