Seven Chinese nationals were arrested on Monday in connection with a kidnapping in Commune IV’s Village 5 in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province. The Chinese victim was rescued.

National Military Police spokesman Eng Hy said on Tuesday that he had received information about the arrest.

“At this point, officials have yet to update me. I don’t know about their next actions,” he said.

Deputy prosecutor and provincial court spokesman Lim Bun Heng said the seven suspects were being questioned by provincial Military Police. They have not been sent to the provincial court yet.

“The case is still in the hands of the provincial Military Police officials. I have not seen the case or the suspects yet. I think they will send them after finishing their questioning,” he said.

Preah Sihanouk Military Police commander Heng Bunty declined to comment, claiming he was busy and couldn’t talk on the phone.

However, Fresh News quoted him as saying that he led 30 military police officials in the operation.

Bunty identified the seven suspects as Cao Ya Qi, 21; Yang Jing, 27; Xie Ji Liu, 28; Cai Lei Lei, 33; Ou Qiang, 26; Zhu Shou Jiang, 25 and Li Jun, 33. Of the seven, Cao is the only woman.

The target of the kidnapping, 37-year-old Luo Ping, was rescued by police.

Bunty was quoted as saying that authorities seized a car, a motorbike, two red pills, a packet of white powder (suspected to be drugs), eight red stamps, 54 ATM cards, three pairs of handcuffs, a cattle prod, a telephone service breaker, tools to check bank data, three passports and drug paraphernalia, among others.
