The Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM)’s National Council has urged unity among all Cambodians. They aim to foster national growth which is guided by the Constitution, akin to developed nations, globally and in the region.

This call was issued via a resolution made at the sixth General Assembly on November 15, presided over by Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and Honorary Chairman of the SFDCM’s National Council, alongside Hun Sen, CPP President and Honorary President of the SFDCM’s National Council.

“In the spirit of solidarity, the General Assembly has successfully executed its agenda and established several resolutions. The assembly unanimously endorsed the report and evaluation of work activities' results at all levels spanning 17 years, from 2006 to 2023,” said the resolution.

The General Assembly highlighted its accomplishments in advancing the country's development across various sectors, building upon the previous government's efforts to effectively implement the Rectangular Strategy at all stages.

It also urged SDFCM members at all levels to sustain their support and active engagement in the outlined programmes and action plans. Their collective effort aims to further the government's initiatives, fostering significant achievements in the nation's ongoing growth and development.

“The presence of the presidium, General Assembly members, and representatives from all components serve as a reminder of the establishment of the SDFCM, originally known as the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (UFNS), and of the great victory it won on January 7, 1979. It also commemorates the many significant achievements of the nation and the people of Cambodia to date," Hun Sen said.

He recalled that the Pol Pot-led Democratic Kampuchea regime perpetrated one of the most genocidal crimes the world has ever seen, resulting in the unjust loss of over three million Cambodian lives in a little over three years.

“Under these catastrophic circumstances, the UFNS, fought to liberate the motherland and ensure the survival of the Cambodian people,” he said.

Thong Mengdvid, director of research at the Asian Vision Institute (AVI), explained on November 15 that the UFNS's General Assembly is a fundamental part of the ruling CPP, which has strived for peace in Cambodia since 1993, finally achieving it after the 1998 election.

He expressed his hopes that the CPP's leadership, led by Hun Sen, would continue to articulate key policies and strategies for national unity, patriotism, and the promotion of traditional customs.

Mengdavid also highlighted the importance of respecting the principles of international law when dealing with other countries, as well as of seeking cooperation partners to attract more investors and visitors to Cambodia.

Chey Tech, a socio-economic development researcher, noted that the UFNS's General Assembly is an internal component of the CPP, and serves as the backbone of the party.
