The Pailin Provincial Court remanded into custody six Thai men on November 17 on charges of “possession and use of illegal weapons”, under Article 20 of the Law on the Management of Weapons, Explosives and Ammunition, and Article 490 of the Criminal Code.
Court spokesman Chea Sa identified the six as Eimrak Sawong Purin, 30; Suep Somboat Chanithon, 19; Bunthuk Thawath Chai, 33; Sithipong Vuthichai, 32; Bea Thachai, 27; and Ath Thebti, 23. They are all employed as staff members at the Grand Pailin Casino.
Citing the November 14 provincial police report, he said they were arrested on November 11 in Sala Krao district after they fired several rounds near the Peace Bridge in the district’s Stung Kach commune and village. Police confiscated three handguns and three magazines from the men.
“After two days of questioning, the men were charged with the possession and use of prohibited weapons. The investigating judge ordered that the accused be placed in pre-trial detention in a provincial pison,” Sa told The Post.
If found guilty, the six men face a prison term of between six months and three years and a fine of up to six million riel ($1,500) each.
