TikTok has launched a new feature, describing it as part of its efforts to strengthen its commitment to creating a safe space for users.

The “Security Checkup” is a tool designed to help users better secure their accounts and ensure their safety while engaging with the platform. The feature provides an easy-to-navigate dashboard, enabling users to review and update their security settings with just a few simple taps.

“Security Checkup guides users through important security measures such as linking a phone number and email for backup login options, enabling two-step verification and monitoring devices that have logged into their account,” explained TikTok.

“It also alerts users to unusual activity and introduces passkey authentication, which offers a more secure, password-free sign-in experience,” it added.

KahnJi Siriprapa Weerachaising, outreach and partnerships manager at TikTok, detailed how Cambodian TikTok users can easily access the Security Checkup feature.

According to Weerachaising, account users should first open the app and then go to the settings and privacy menu. Once they have successfully navigated there, they should select security and permissions.

He noted that TikTok continues to invest in privacy protections and provides educational resources to help users stay cyber-safe.

Alongside this, the Chinese company has introduced the “Family Pairing” feature, which allows parents to set boundaries and support their teens in developing healthier digital habits.

New tools include the “Time Away” feature, which lets parents schedule breaks from TikTok, and increased visibility into their teens' online interactions, including who they follow and block.

Additionally, parents can be notified when their teen reports content.

“For users under 16, TikTok is rolling out a ‘wind-down’ feature that encourages healthier screen habits by interrupting late-night scrolling with calming music and meditation exercises,” said the company.

“These updates, aimed at enhancing digital well-being, also give families in Cambodia more control and flexibility in managing screen time,” it explained.

In a breakthrough for Cambodia’s TikTok creators, high-quality content that adheres to TikTok’s guidelines can now be monetised.

This was announced at a safety training workshop, held in Phnom Penh on March 19.

The event was organised by TikTok in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, and brought together content creators, journalists and government representatives to discuss online safety and TikTok’s community guidelines.

With over 10 million active users in Cambodia, the option of monetisation offers an exciting opportunity for local creators to turn their passion for creating content into a source of income.

TikTok’s presence in Cambodia is growing rapidly, as part of a broader trend where social media platforms are increasingly seen as significant avenues for content creation, commerce and personal brand-building.

Tep Asnarith, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, reminded creators to adhere to ethical standards, produce fact-based content and contribute to maintaining social order.

He urged creators to be responsible in their online activities and ensure that their content benefits society and preserves the integrity of the public space.
