A sugarcane plantation worker in Kampong Speu province’s Thpong district died on Saturday when a threshing machine crushed her as she slept.

District deputy police chief Kim Yon said on Sunday: “The victim from Ya Ang commune died instantly in Prambei Mom commune. She was listening to music and fell asleep. She did not hear the machine.”

An anonymous villager at the funeral said the company, Phnom Penh Sugar, paid the victim’s family one million riel ($250) for her funeral.

Thpong district governor Keav Leangkea said he was not aware of the incident.
