Twenty Cambodian teachers and education officials attended a seven-day digital workshop in Busan, South Korea.
The attendees received specialised training in how to utilise information technology to enhance digital teaching and learning.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport announced on September 25 that the workshop was conducted as part of a collaboration between the ministry and the Busan Department of Education. The training ran from September 18 to 24.
“Each of the attendees received instruction on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as well as about how to use the ‘Metaverse’ to assist with online learning. They also picked up some new coding skills, and toured several high schools, to see the practical application of what they had learned, and how to integrate the digital world into real-life classroom scenarios,” it said.
Sok Tha, director of the ministry’s Information Technology Department, offered his thanks to the Busan education department for organising the course.
“The workshop provided an opportunity for Cambodian educators and official to develop the necessary digital skills. Each of the trainees will share what they have learned with their colleagues and students,” he said.
Kong Samneang, president of the Federation of Education Services, said on September 25 that there has been significant progress of teaching by using information technology, especially through AI, in recent years.
He supported the education ministry’s efforts to expand cooperation with the international community, especially the education departments or ministries of other nations.
“Teachers are role models, who should be able to lead their students. The number of people who were sent on this particular training was small, so I hope that more education officials and teachers will have the opportunity to participate in more training. Trained teachers will become core staff and share their knowledge with others,” he said.
The programme was well organised, allowing the trainees to gain new knowledge and experience, in line with the digital revolution in the education sector, according to the ministry.
It explained that through this cooperation, it had actively contributed to promoting the cultural links between the two nations, we well as reducing the digital gap in the education sector.
