A German businessman charged with “forcibly” raping a 14-year-old girl, whom he allegedly purchased as his “adopted daughter” last year, had a hearing in court yesterday.

Dieter Becker, 62, faces charges of paying for sex with a child, human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

The Ministry of Interior’s Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Unit arrested Becker on May 2 in the capital’s Daun Penh district after the alleged victim’s parents lodged a complaint with police.

The girl’s lawyer, Sek Savoeun, said the 14-year-old sustained serious injuries to her vaginal region while with Becker, and called on the court to punish him “accordingly”.

The victim’s mother said her daughter’s honour had been “seriously affected”, and requested $5,000 compensation.

Becker denied the allegations. “I could not commit such a stupid thing,” he said.

The verdict is expected to be handed down on December 4.
