Senior Minister Ly Thuch conferred diplomas to 34 trainees who successfully completed a Sino-Cambodian cross-border digital trade course for intermediate management staff at the Chongqing Vocational Training College in China. They represent various sectors including government, private enterprises and higher education institutions.
He Ji, president of the school, also attended the September 28 graduation ceremony.
The collaboration with the college has been ongoing since 2019, under the aegis of the National Committee for Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (NC-ESCAP), which is chaired by Thuch. The partnership has seen nearly 100 Cambodians undergo skills instruction in three different areas.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been prepared for signing between state institutions, the private sector and the college, and aims to foster the cooperation.
Thuch, who is also first vice-president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the college and the Chongqing administration and education committee. He lauded their consistent commitment to dedicating time and resources to workforce development.
“Chongqing is a vital partner for Cambodia in this type of schooling. I am optimistic that over the course of this 20-day workshop, our people have gained insights into the culture, economy, society, technology and science of China,” he said.
He urged the graduates to nurture their bonds with China, honouring the 65-year historical legacy set by the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk and former Prime Minister Hun Sen. These relationships, he believes, will fortify the friendship between the two countries.
Thuch also addressed the China-Chongqing-ASEAN Forum on September 27. The event, championed by Chongqing and the education committee, centred on fostering cooperation and quality in vocational education.
Thuch highlighted that the forum symbolised the expanding cooperation between China and ASEAN in the spheres of education and training. He anticipated that the collaboration will invigorate trade, culture and mutual cooperation between ASEAN and Chongqing.
