The Inter-ministerial Committee to Combat Covid-19 on August 6 briefly held 1,419 people for reprimand and stopped 584 vehicles throughout the country for violating Covid-19 measures including the 9pm-3am curfew.

In a notice on August 7, the committee said authorities also collected 67 million riel ($16,450) in fines. It had deployed forces to 973 locations to enforce the measures.

Kim Santepheap, head of the committee's Secretariat, said that among the 1,419 people who were briefly detained, only two were sent to court. The rest were only reprimanded and fined.

According to the law on the control of Covid-19 and other contagious diseases, violators face between one and five million riel in fine and are subject to further legal action.
