The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) organised an annual technical workshop on media and public relations to strengthen membership capacity and contribute to the government in training young people in digital media.
The workshop was held under the theme "Creating and spreading digital content to influence the youth of society" on December 11 under the chairmanship of Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith and UYFC president Hun Many as well as other speakers and roughly 400 students majoring in media studies from universities in Phnom Penh.
At the workshop, Many said that in the context of the development of technology, especially social media, young people and citizens are all sharing information, creating content and sending messages regularly through personal social media accounts.
He said he strongly hopes that all participants in the workshop will gain knowledge and share theories, experiences, challenges and solutions related to creating content online responsibly.
"I urge you all to pay attention as well as participate in discussions and exchange ideas to provide new input for yourself as well as for fulfilling your roles and responsibilities in order to improve in both the current and future contexts," he said.
Ministry of Environment spokesman Neth Pheaktra said the workshop also part of raising awareness and sharing knowledge about social responsibility and the responsible use of media.
"Citizens and journalists have the right to receive and transmit information, but not to harm others. Using Facebook or TikTok to provoke unrest or mobilise forces to create unrest and insecurity is not freedom of expression. It violates the Criminal Code and is against the law," he said, adding that everyone must try to spread only true information and adhere to an ethical framework that is beneficial to society.
