Hun Many, head of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), said he regarded volunteer doctors as front-line heroes who set personal interests aside when they joined the government in the fight against Covid-19 on behalf of their people and society.
He made the remarks while speaking at the Koh Pich theatre hall in Phnom Penh in front of an audience of roughly 6,000 people, including UYFC leaders and members and teams of volunteer doctors from the UYFC.
Hun Many, who is also the honorary president of the volunteer doctors, said he regarded the meeting as a clear confirmation of the success of the Cambodian government in the fight against the pandemic that it could allow all of the UYFC members to come together in person on such a large scale.
“This meeting is largely due to the participation of the volunteer doctors of the UYFC. Every team of volunteer doctors is a front-line hero who set personal interests aside to unite for a great cause helping their people and society,” he said.
He added that although the members had different day jobs and were busy, the team set their work aside and joined as volunteers working to provide people with free medical treatment, and especially to take part in vaccination campaigns to fight the pandemic.
“This success is also inseparable from the contributions of all volunteer doctors present at this meeting and at the grassroots levels who joined the Royal Government in the fight against Covid-19,” Many added in a September 11 social media post.
UYFC said that the volunteer doctors had devoted their time to humanitarian missions and activities to serve the people on behalf of national society.
This humanitarian activity had stemmed from their love and concern for the joys and pains of the people, which was reflected in the provision of free health services to the people and in the participation in the fight against the pandemic and vaccinations, it said.
Many continued that, day after day, their ranks had grown steadily because they had gathered with a strong will, determination and dedication to join in helping national society with knowledge and skills.
“It is based on the spirit of trust in our country that our missions in general and the volunteer doctors in particular have always received the support, love and recognition of the people from all walks of life. We always welcome Cambodian youths on a journey for the cause of the motherland and for a prosperous future of Cambodia,” he said.
Heng Sokkung, a member of the UYFC Central Committee and head of the UYFC volunteer doctor teams, said at gathering that the doctors team of the UYFC was established with a mission to examine people in person where they live and to treat their diseases for free and that everyone at UYFC including himself and Many remained committed to continuing their mission to provide assistance to their nation and society.
