The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration said eight referral hospitals have now been designated to provide vaccinations to anyone who had not received the jabs during the opening campaign.
In a notice signed by governor Khuong Sreng on September 15, it said vaccinations for people aged 12 and over have reached nearly 100 per cent of the population in Phnom Penh.
The capital concluded its jab drive for the adult population on July 8 and will wrap up its campaign for the 12- 17 age group on September 17.
However, it said some adults and children have missed receiving vaccinations during the campaigns due to various reasons such as being in quarantine, health problems, travel or hesitation about vaccines due to misinformation.
“As such, the sub-commission for Covid-19 vaccinations in Phnom Penh has decided to extend the opportunity for all Phnom Penh residents aged 12 and up to receive free jabs at eight referral hospitals between 8am and 5pm from Monday to Friday from the date of this announcement until further notice,” said the notice.
Four of the eight hospitals are Cambodia-China Friendship Hospital in Sen Sok district; Pochentong Referral Hospital in Por Sen Chey district; King Father-Queen Mother Referral Hospital in Russey Keo district; and Phnom Penh Municipal Referral Hospital.
The other four are district referral hospitals in Chaktomuk, Dangkor, Chbar Ampov and Prek Phnov.
Sreng also called on those in the 12-17 age group who have already received their first doses to get their second shots as scheduled at the places where they received their first jabs.
As of September 14, Cambodia had vaccinated 71.81 per cent of its total population of 16 million. This rate of vaccinations is one of the highest in the region and in the world, on par with developed nations such as Germany and the UK, according to the World Health Organisation data.
The Kingdom has so far vaccinated 98 per cent of the target adult population of 10 million and over 87 per cent of the 12-17 age group of nearly two million, according to the Ministry of Health.
