Or Vandine, secretary of state for the Ministry of Health and head of the national Covid-19 vaccination committee, once again assured the public that the Kingdom’s supply of vaccines is more than adequate.
During her visit to Kampong Thom and Siem Reap provinces over the weekend, Vandine also issued a reminder of the importance of taking precautionary measures as the coronavirus is still circulating.
“Cambodia has enough Covid-19 vaccines to provide to people around the country free of charge, and will continue to do so regardless of race or political affiliation. All of the vaccines we use are recognised by the World Health Organisation [WHO],” she said.
“Everyone must remember to take preventive measures and also ensure that their vaccinations are up to date. It is important to make sure that your antibodies do not fall to a level where your body is no longer capable of fighting the virus,” she added.
The ministry has advised that booster shots be administered four months apart, with the 6th booster campaign currently underway.
“If we do not want the previous doses to be worthless, we must not allow the dose gap to exceed the interval set by the ministry. It we delay by as long as a year, the immune system will drop to zero, and the effect of previous jabs will be lost,” she said.
The government plans to offer voluntary boosters at six-month intervals following the 6th dose.
According to the ministry, as of February 25, over 95per cent of the Kingdom’s estimated population 16 million have been vaccinated. More than 10.5 million have received a third dose, over five million their fourth, 1.5 million their fifth and almost 300,000 their sixth.
