The Ministry of Public Works and Transport on August 18 put the Prek Ho-Phnom Penh weigh station in Cheung Ek commune of Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district into use on a two-week trial as part of efforts to deter overloaded trucks.
“To stop trucks from loading over the legal limit and to protect roads from damages, [we] have set up a facility named Prek Ho-Phnom Pehh weigh station,” it said.
The station will be in operation as a trial from August 18-31 before starting imposing fines on overloaded vehicles from September 1 onwards.
The ministry will also launch another weigh station in Kratie province from September 1. Called Kampi-Kratie weigh station, it is located in Chetr Borey district’s Sambok commune, the ministry said in a notice on August 18.
